Nationwide Rivers Inventory
The National Park Service has compiled and maintains the Nationwide Rivers Inventory (NRI), a register of over 3,000 river segments that potentially qualify as national wild, scenic or recreational rivers. A great source of information for ecologists seeking data on plant and animal species, for resource managers needing a reference to help monitor activities on their rivers, for states conducting river assessments and for recreationalists seeking a listing of undisturbed river segments.

The message, "DUMP NO WASTE - DRAINS TO STREAM," painted next to a storm drain serves as a reminder that stormwater and anything else spilled into the underground stormwater system flows directly into local streams and eventually into Puget Sound. Storm Drain Stenciling Kits, complete with supplies, safety equipment and instrucctions may be borrowed for up to two weeks. This is a great activity for families, scouts, community groups, and students.

EPA water quality database for collection, management and sharing of water quality data. For federal agencies, states, tribes, local governments, academic groups and citizen volunteers. This database is free to users, easy to use and supported and maintained by the EPA. Menu access and browse capability, supports storage of quality assurance and quality control information and provides a wide range of standard output formats (e.g. dBase, Lotus, and ASCII). It allows users to store chemical data, biological community information, sediment toxicity information, and aquatic habitat evaluations. It also supports GIS.

The page for volunteer monitors. Created under the auspices of the Washington Department of Ecology, the WO page provides, among other things, a calendar of events and workshops around the state, resources for volunteer monitors, a matrix defining the four levels of Quality Data, which includes links to 303(d) list of impaired and threatened waters that don't meet state water quality standards, as well as links to the 305(b) report, which shows whether water bodies support beneficial uses, such as swimming or fishing and whether they are impaired. Viewers can enter their own information about events, as well as locate other monitors with an online, searchable database roster.
